Hair Care in Pakistan: Building a Simple Oiling Routine
· 7 min read
Hair care advice written for other climates rarely survives a Lahore summer or Karachi humidity. A routine that works here has to account for hard water, dust and heat — and still be simple enough to repeat every week.
What makes hair care in Pakistan different
- Hard water. Mineral deposits leave hair feeling rough and dull, and make shampoo lather poorly.
- Dust and pollution. City air coats the scalp, which means more frequent washing — and more dryness.
- Heat and sun. Long summers dehydrate the hair shaft and fade coloured hair fast.
- Humidity swings. Coastal humidity brings frizz; dry inland winters bring static and flaking.
A weekly routine that holds up
Twice a week: oil and massage
Section dry hair, apply oil to the scalp, massage for three to five minutes, leave for one to two hours, then wash. Two sessions a week is the sweet spot for most people.
Two to three times a week: wash gently
Use a mild shampoo and focus it on the scalp. Let the run-off clean the lengths. In hard-water areas, a final rinse with filtered or boiled-and-cooled water makes a noticeable difference.
Every wash: condition the ends
Conditioner belongs on the mid-lengths and ends, never the scalp. Rinse with cooler water to help the cuticle lie flat.
Daily: protect
Cover your hair in strong sun and dust. Loosen tight styles. Avoid combing hair while it is soaking wet.
Seasonal adjustments
Summer: lighter application, shorter leave-in time, more frequent washing. Winter: a richer application and a slightly longer massage, since scalps get drier and flakier.
How long before you see a difference
Give any routine eight to twelve weeks. Hair grows roughly a centimetre a month, so anything you notice sooner is about condition and shine, not length. Individual results vary.
